Mary Edna Thompson

Aliquippa, PA

Mary Edna leads the Soup Lady ministry. Here is her story:

1977, actually the date was 9/11/1977, I sat in a field at Grandfather’s Mountain (NC) and was overwhelmed with an awareness of my brokenness and shame for the lifestyle I had chosen. I asked Jesus to forgive me and to be the Lord of my life. I knew deep in my spirit that He heard my plea. It did not take long for God to bring people into my life who were more mature in their relationship with Christ. They taught and trained me in a deeper knowledge of God in His Holy Scripture as Father, Son, Holy Spirit. They were mighty people of prayer and continue to pray for me. God began to reveal Himself in ways beyond anything I could ever imagine.

Shortly thereafter God gave me a ministry with musicians which He grew and continues to grow. The Lord gives many opportunities to minister His love. I have been able to work with other pray-ers in passing down those things which I have learned such as “anointing with oil for healing” and in the area of spiritual warfare. I facilitated a prayer walk in a small town which involved pray-ers from the surrounding area. This prayer walk was also used in instructing others in the many facets associated with prayer walking. Opportunities have come to prayer walk various churches, homes and land.

In response to disasters to I was sent to Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina and Galveston, Texas after Hurricane Ike. While overseeing the kitchen in feeding survivors and volunteers who came to assist those affected, doors were opened to share the love of Jesus Christ. Following the earthquake in Pulaski, Virginia I helped in the areas of distribution of goods and clothing to the survivors which once again gave opportunity to minster to the volunteers as well as survivors of the disaster.

God continues to give me opportunity to be trained in many areas. After taking courses in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and training thru the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) I was accepted as a chaplain with the BGEA RRT (Rapid Response Team). Even though I have not been deployed by the BGEA RRT the training has been extremely valuable in my everyday ministry. 85% of those we encounter in a disaster are already suffering from a trauma of some sort in their personal lives. Because of this training I am also a member of the Wythe County CISM Team that responds to local disasters and trauma such as ministering to those evacuated from a mass pile up on the nearby interstate. I meet regularly with other pray-ers from many different denominations in the surrounding counties. We pray for leaders of our nation, local governments and churches as well as for individual prayer needs.

All of this to say, nothing is impossible for God. He has us under His wings. He leads and directs and will never forsake us. He has a plan for our lives and it becomes clearer as we seek a deeper relationship with Him. Thank You Father, Son, Holy Spirit!
